Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands – Charter Digest today is pleased to introduce Charter Yachts 1.0 free for iPad, its new sailing vacation app that provides easily searchable listings, pricing, and online reservation inquiries for vacationers planning a charter yacht getaway. Charter Digest is a group of independent, professional Charter Yacht Owners, who provide services and itineraries that are normally available only to the yachting cognoscenti. The app includes listings for powerboats, sailboats, catamarans, trimarans, and mega yachts. Users can select from fully crewed, half-board, captain-only, bareboat with crew, and bareboat charters.
Similar in design to such reservation/booking service websites as Expedia or Travelocity, the Charter Yachts app takes the user through a few simple steps and then presents its search results. And like other reservation inquiry services, the app has special listings for Package Deals and Promotions. There is no typing required, as all selections are easily made from a drop-down or picker menu.
For example, the first of the five required search fields is Charter Destination. Touching the screen lets the user select any one of the following choices: Alaska, Bahamas, Caribbean – BVI, Caribbean – U.S. and Spanish VI, Caribbean – Leeward Islands, Caribbean – Windward Islands, Florida, French Polynesia, Mediterranean – Eastern, Mediterranean – Western, New England, San Blas Islands – Panama, South America – Belize, and South America – Honduras.
Next, are two fields for Charter Starts On and Charter Ends On. Large, full-month calendars open from which dates can be conveniently chosen. Total Number of Guests allows the user to input the number of guests in their charter party. Finally, a picker odometer display allows the selection of vessel type and “crew”, including: all (captain-only, crewed, half board, or bareboat with crew), powerboats, sailboats, catamarans, trimarans, and mega yachts.
With all fields completed the Check Availability button brings up the Search Results window. Listed eight vessels per page, each listing includes a thumbnail photo, vessel name, destinations, crew, and estimated cost per week. Results can be sorted by price, reviews, or name and may also be filtered by special requirements or services (e.g., Smoke Free Vessel, Pet on Board, Kid Friendly, etc.) Touching any listing opens a full page Overview, Slide Show, Description, Amenities, Review, and Availability Calendar. The quick view Availability Calendar displays 12 months in advance, and its dates are color-coded for Booked, Not Available, Available, and On Hold.
When ready to make a reservation inquiry, travelers just touch the Email My Request button and an email with the complete details of the charter request is quickly emailed back. A temporary hold will automatically be placed on the yacht’s calendar. For easy coordination with friends and family, the app includes integrated email, Facebook, and Twitter connectivity. App users can search for a yacht by name, yachts listed by manufacturer, and display a complete directory of all yachts.
“No matter what kind of watercraft experience you’re planning, our Charter Yachts app will help you find exactly what you are looking for,” stated Aletta Wheeler of Charter Digest. “We don’t follow the crowd into saturated markets; instead, we like to lead and bring you innovative and exciting opportunities that are, by tradition, normally only available to those ‘in the know'”.
