Tel Aviv, Israel – MAKE APP Magazine, launched on Sunday the 19th of August 2012, is one of the first independent publishers to release a magazine to the Apple iPad Newsstand, joining the ranks of popular journals such as Wired Magazine and National Geographic. Currently there are only 4,160 digital publications in the Newsstand in the US App Store, making it one of the least competitive and potentially most profitable sections of the App Store.

The magazine aims to mentor its readers to become successful app entrepreneurs and features interviews with leading figures in the app development industry. The first issue features Amish Shah, who launched an app business with zero programming knowledge and subsequently sold his business for $1.95M within 9 months. Other notable guests to be featured in this and coming issues include Gert Jan Spriensma (Data Analyst, Distimo), Matthaus Krzykowski (Co-Founder, Xyologic), Tomasz Kolinko (Founder and Chad Mureta (Founder of Empire Apps).

The Apple Newsstand: A Global Opportunity
“Just hours after launch we’ve already seen amazing interest,” says David Janner, the magazine’s publisher and editor. “The iPad Newsstand allows access to a global community. We’ve seen downloads of the magazine from all over the world, including the US, China, Australia, Denmark, Japan and South Korea.”

According to Janner, the age of print publishing is giving way to the new era of digital publishing. “Print publishers can’t compete with the new digital medium. For a fraction of the cost you can have instantaneous global distribution, thanks to Apple’s App Store and Newsstand. They will have to adapt or die.”

MAKE APP Magazine uses the Magcast platform, which was designed to allow independent publishers such as David to seamlessly produce magazines for the Newsstand. The Magcast platform itself costs only around $2,000 and according to Janner the only other cost associated with the creation of the magazine was a sum of $250 for the graphic design, which was outsourced to the Philippines using Odesk. “It was literally a matter of creating a PDF file and uploading it to the system. Magcast spits out an app in a few minutes which can be uploaded to the App Store.”

MAKE APP Magazine is devoted to teaching indie app developers how to best market and monetize their apps in order to achieve success in the App Store. The magazine, launching August 2012, is edited and produced by David Janner, a former medical doctor who abandoned his medical training to pursue his passion for entrepreneurship and technological innovation. MAKE APP Magazine was born out of David’s interest in app development and the relative lack of credible information sources related to app development and app marketing for independent developers. MAKE APP Magazine is also one of the first of its kind, being a digital magazine published exclusively to the iPad Newsstand by an independent publisher.
