At its basic, Letter Opener Pro processes Microsoft Outlook winmail.dat files without the requirement for a separate, standalone application. Implemented as a plug-in, Letter Opener Pro lives right inside Apple Mac OS X Mail or Microsoft Outlook 2011, allowing users to seamlessly convert winmail.dat files to attachments, iCal files, vCards, and more. Version 5 is the first version to support Microsoft Outlook 2011.

More info about the winmail.dat format:
winmail.dat files are sent form Microsoft Outlook or Exchange Server. Some winmail.dat files only contain information used by Outlook to generate a richly formatted view of the message, such as embedded documents or Outlook-specific features such as meeting requests, versit card information, notes and messages forwarded as attachments. Other winmail.dat files may contain files which have been attached to an e-mail message.
