Sophia-Antipolis, France – A&R Entertainment today is pleased to introduce Mini Train for Kids 1.0 free for iOS, their 3D train set for kids ages 2 to 8. The Retina display compatible app lets kids control the locomotive’s route in track switching mode, build tracks along a specified route in construction mode, or build any circuit in free mode. Players collect 3D, animated stars by steering their train through the grid squares containing stars. With a 3-speed throttle, whistle, and animated 3D graphics, the game is ideal for kids 2 to 8. Mini Train for Kids comes with 4 of its 60 Levels unlocked, and the full app, which is available through an in-app purchase, also unlocks 3 additional engines and the free design mode.
In track switching mode, players control the speed of the engine and the path it takes. The goal is to travel on every bit of track having a star above it. In the beginning levels this is fairly easy, requiring only two or three swipe gestures to reset track switches for either a 90-degree turn or straight ahead. But at higher levels, players may need to reset switches more than 12 times to collect all the stars and end the level by reaching the dead end siding. At the highest levels, bombs on the tracks challenge the player to perform switching quickly and accurately. Because the train cannot be stopped after starting, each level can be re-played at each of the three locomotive speeds: slow, medium, and fast.
* Three modes of play: Switching, Construction, and Free
* Drive the locomotive along the tracks and pick up 3D stars
* Reset track switches while the train is moving
* Throttle allows players to set the engine at one of 3 different speeds
* Universal app optimized for all iDevices; Retina display compatible
* 2 environments: meadow and desert
In construction mode, players must lay tracks that pass through all the stars on the map grid squares (the square markings disappear when the train starts, leaving the terrain unobscured). Players have a choice of seven realistic track tiles, which can be placed on any square and that automatically connect with each other. Players can build their line with vertical track or horizontal track. There are also four choices of curved track, corresponding to the four quarters of a circle. Finally, a 90-degree crossing gate permits figure eights.
When one of the even track tiles is selected, touching any square places the track and connects it. A remove button allows players to undo any piece of track they have placed. Players have a limitless supply of tracks, which is fortunate, since at the highest levels dense fields of stars and bombs require careful planning and execution. Constructing a layout and then running the train on it is the ideal combination of a challenging task followed by the immediate gratification of enjoying the result.
In free mode, players have no constraints and can build any layout they like. In addition to the standard, seven realistic track tiles there are eight more, providing four different branching configurations for both horizontal and vertical track. There are also 10 different “worlds” or environments to choose from, and finished layouts can be saved for editing at a later time. Free mode allows the child’s imagination to run free, encouraging them to create any circuit they like.
“The perfectly shaded, 3D, vector graphics, music, and sound effects all make Mini Train for Kids a great game for young children,” stated Alexandre Minard of A&R Entertainment. “While they’re having fun, kids are also learning track switching logic and maze solving.”
