Barcelona, Spain – A failed server harddrive, a hacker attack, a misconfiguration, a database that has reached its limit: there are many reasons causing a big horror scenario on the internet – the website is suddenly no longer available. Anyone that makes a living through his online presence and provides either knowledge, goods or services, can not afford that customers are unable to access the homepage of their business. It is vital to be informed about the incident as quickly as possible and to immediately search for the cause, getting the website back online again.
The free iPhone app miServer – now available in the App Store – will lend a helping hand when it comes to the above situation. It monitors a domain and automatically sends out a push alert, as soon as the most important vital signs of the website are no longer present. If that should happen, it is possible to forward the status notice right from within the app via e-mail. Perhaps to the company’s own webmaster.
For each domain three tests may be performed:
* Does the website work?
* Does the mail server work?
* Is the domain (DNS) accessible?
miServer: up to 5 tests included in the price of the app. In order for the monitoring system to work, the user has to register with his e-mail address when engaging the app for the first time – establishing a free user account. Following this, a wizard will take care of configuring all the appropriate tests, after the domain address has been submitted.
The app miServer administers up to five tests, conducted in intervals of 15 minutes. This way it is feasible to test the mailserver, DNS and webserver of a domain. The two remaining test may be used for an additional URL or ping test
After each test the app will display the result: OK, WARN and FAIL. The status screen is used to visualize the statement, applying the colors of a traffic light. A green light indicates that everything is in order.
Important: anyone that would like to test additional domains or would prefer a shorter interval for the tests, may obtain the appropriate premium version via in-app purchase.
Michael Born of the responsible company miborn solutions, SL: “I have been active on the Internet since its early days. In the past few decades I have experienced quite a few digital disasters, such as online shops that are offline for days, without anyone noticing. Looking back, I can say that most disasters would have been a lot less serious, if the responsible individuals had been informed about the failure in a much quicker manner. When creating miServer it was my goal to come up with a monitoring system that can be configured and used by anyone. Power users may easily adapt the app via premium services to their needs.”
