Providing exciting gameplay for any player as well as firefighters, Firefighter Knowledge Challenge is a single player quiz game. With a storehouse of more than 750 questions, the app offers three different modes of gameplay: Standard, Random Challenge, or Selected Challenge. Standard play consists of 10 randomly selected, multiple-choice questions. After players read the question, they have 15 seconds to select the correct answer from four possible choices. Standard play features 10 questions chosen randomly from all the app’s categories. In Random Challenge mode, players are quizzed only within one category. And in Selected Challenge mode, players are quizzed only within one category of their choice.
During Standard play, questions are worth 50 points each, and the last question (Bonus Round) is worth 150 points. If the “Time Left” drops below 10 seconds, then each second reduces the Question’s point value by 10%. In this way, players are encouraged to answer within five seconds to receive the full 50 points. Standard questions lose 5 points per second as the game counts down from 10 to 0. Correct answers add the weighted point value to the player’s score, while incorrect answers deduct 10 points from the player’s total. Guessing is advised, as no answer to a question deducts 25 points. A perfect score is 450 150=600 points.
In Random Challenge or Selected Challenge mode, the 15-second time limit remains, but scoring is simplified. Players receive one point for each correct answer and no penalty for an incorrect answer. Incorrectly answered questions are recycled and can be randomly asked again. The goal in Challenge mode is to answer all of the questions within the category correctly, continuing to play until no more questions remain.
A most unusual trivia game, Firefighter Knowledge Challenge does contain questions from a wide variety of fields, but they all have one thing in common: it’s fun! Though within a gaming context the queries may be considered trivia, their import may be anything but trivial. Both casual players and firefighters can learn new facts, while testing their mastery of the basics in a variety of categories.
Ideal for friendly competition within and between firehouses, the game includes its own Leaderboard and Challenges. After each game, the player’s Nickname, Fire Department affiliation, and final score are displayed. The top three scores to beat are displayed at the start of each Standard game.
“Imagine that each answer you give is a life or death decision,” commented a spokesperson for Fire Dog Apps. “The clock is ticking.”
