Dublin, Ireland – Independent developers Chris, James and Simon today announce the release of version 2.0 of their alphabet app The Lonely Beast ABC, for iOS devices. Based on Chris Judge’s much loved picture book and built in a little shed at the end of the garden, the app distinguishes itself with beautiful illustrations, no-fuss controls, simple interactions and lots of funny stuff to keep kids giggling while they’re learning. This update upgrades the app to a universal version for use on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and adds region-appropriate pronunciation for letters and vocabulary.
The app popped up in this year’s iPad ‘Together’ TV commercial and ‘Elementary’ print ads, and has earned glowing reviews from Boing Boing and Children’s Technology Review as well as lots of 5-star App Store ratings from happy parents around the world.
“We’ve had amazing support from parents, kids and educators since the launch of the app,” says developer James Kelleher, “and a universal version has been the most requested addition. This new update allows us to introduce The Lonely Beast and his friends to a wider audience of young learners.”
Since its release The Lonely Beast ABC has scooped up an Editor’s Choice Award in Children’s Technology Review, a nomination for the Bologna Ragazzi Digital Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Apple features in New & Noteworthy and Apps For Kids, and acclaim from Boing Boing, Apps Playground, BabyCenter, Babyccino Kids and AppySmarts among others.
