Porto, Portugal – AppGeneration introduces its own digital publishing platform, PubliGeneration, through which publishers can make their newspapers or magazines available to a global audience. The concept is unique in the market for two reasons: AppGeneration does not charge a sales commission of the publications (only an annual flat-fee). Secondly, publishers are also completely in control of their publications as they use their own iTunes developer account to upload them.
Through PubliGeneration it is now possible for publishers to have their own branded magazine or newspaper app that is compatible with Apple’s Newsstand for iPad and iPhone users. Publishers have full control over what they publish and over prices, banners and advertising and they can use current formats with no additional work. It’s also possible to sell old issues to new users and grant those who are subscribed to the paper edition free access to the digital one.

In addition publishers can also use PubliGeneration’s statistical tools to get reader profiles by country, age and gender and see how many hours people spend reading each title. Since it’s possible to see the number of readers per title, they can cross sell more effectively. And as they are in full charge of their titles, they can manage all the prices in the back office and change them without any delay, making promotions easy to implement.
For the readers, the digital experience is “amazing,” says Carqueja. “Readers can pan and zoom with high efficiency, swipe pages fast and easily or check all the pages at once, so they can easily navigate within the publication.”
Additionally they can also search for any text, word or sentence in the publication and see all the matching pages highlighted. After closing the page they can open it again and find themselves in the same page where they stopped reading. It is also easier for publishers to stay connected to their readers, as the latter receive push notifications from newsstand when new titles go out.
These notifications also offer possibilities in terms of marketing: publishers can use the PubliGeneration back office tools to send messages to their readers with pop-up warnings that enable them to ask the readers for action, cross-sell or up-sell. In addition they can also send their readers push notifications that are free and alert them to novelty and action with regard to their magazine or even to advertisers’ messages.
By using PubliGeneration, publishers can offer their readers a true multimedia experience. They are able to build in web pages into any area of their static offline pages and they can have e-mail addresses ready to be used by their readers to interact. It is also possible to watch videos both offline and online with no effort and sounds can be introduced that will automatically go live when readers turn the page. The best part is that publishers can do all this using their normal PDF format with very minor tweeks.
