Smashing Egg Tido is all about the egg. This egg just so happens to be the main characters who is responsible for running around and smashing the bad guys before he gets turned in a delicious sunny-side up entree. The idea of the game is rather simple, but the most interesting part is how you control the egg. The goal is to stay alive by smashing as many enemies as you can. You do so by tapping anywhere on the playing area and the egg will perform either a punch or some other maneuver. Moving around will be accomplished by drawing a path on the screen. So for example, if you want your egg to move to the other side, simply draw a line and egg will walk. While this might sound simple, its not as responsive as direct controls. Despite the slight sluggishness, the unique way of controlling the egg adds a distinct flavour to the game which makes it a little more challenging and entertaining. There are also two levels to choose from: Snow and Grass. You can also pick the speed of the game which will essentially determine the quantity of the enemies in each wave. Hold out on as many waves as you can before you get turned into an omelette.

Axe and Fate is a great RPG that takes you on a 3D adventure in first-person. You’ll begin the game by setting up your character, configuring all the skills that you want to start off with and then finally jumping into the action. The controls are what you would expect. Touching the bottom left corner and panning around will move your character. Doing the same in the bottom right corner will tilt the camera angle accordingly. Alternatively you can swipe the screen for a more direct approach to changing the camera angle. There are several action button that appear periodically depending on the available actions. They will let you talk to characters, open door, attack enemies and the like. There are several menus that will help you select weapons, choose spells and interact with the “backend” of the scene. Attacking enemies also happens RPG style. Its based on a turn-by-turn concept and is there less intense compared to first-person realtime shooter. The graphics, music and and animations are also well done and definitely what you would expect from a Unity-built game.

Scan and Protect simply encrypts and stores all the photos you take on your iPhone. You start the app by creating a password that will be used to access you information inside the application. You will then create your initial folder to store your photos. You can create as many folder as you like, and they can be extremely handy in organizing your information. After that’s done, its then entirely up to you to fill Scan and Protect with your most valuable and confidential photos of you bank statements, credit cards, etc. Scan and Protect also lets you set your photo quality which will essentially reduce file size and reduce encrypting / decrypting time but will in turn result in poor photos. The choice is yours, however.

Last Match for iPhone is exactly what the name implies. The person to take the last match, looses the game. Those are the rules. The game is brutally simple to play and can be enjoyed on your own, challenging the computer named Al or alternatively you can play with a friend on the same screen. If you’re familiar with the game already than this is no brainer and you may be interested in exploring other awesome variations, which are listed below. If this is your first time seeing it, then lets go over some rules. There are three rows of matches. You can take as many matches as you want but they have to be from the same row. The idea is to leave your opponent with the last match. It might sound easy, but it can be extremely challenging. There are some variations and they become progressively more difficult. Classic:
This is the game type we discussed above. Very simple and straightforward. Great for children who are learning to count.

Salvation:
The rules are the same as in the classical style, but there are color matches: blue and green. Green match adds another 3 usual matches in a row, and it can not be more than 7 matches in the row. Blue match adds one usual match.

Coercion:
In this mode there is no green match, there is a red match. Red match removes one usual match of adjacent rows.

Freedom;
This mode is not for the weak, then there are all color matches, and in order to win, you really need to think.

RESOPE! for Android is unlike any other game. I’d say its almost like reverse-Tetris but nothing like it at all. The best way to understand is to just check it out yourself. There’s a very good help at the beginning of the game so you shouldn’t have any trouble getting started, but the basic principal is to rescue like pixelate characters that represent workers stranded in a building that is getting demolished. The only way to rescue them is to bring them safely to the ground. The building is comprised of various blocks made of various materials. To bring your stranded workers to safety, you must burn block beneath them, so they will eventually drop to the ground. Block can be made of wood, metal or other materials that effect how the blocks burn. There are actually 3 different burn patters starting from a single block all the way to major block section. Watch out, because if you start burning a block at the 3rd stage of firepower a little too close to your workers, they will be burned and you’ll fail the level. Firepower defaults to stage 3, which means its hard right from the beginning and you have to choose your blocks wisely. As the game progresses, you’ll see blue circles that let you switch firepower for a turn. You’ll also encounter bombs that take out whole rows of blocks. Metal block don’t burn so they’ll work well in protecting your workers from nearby firepower. It won’t be too long until you’ll have watch your every move to prevent making the wrong one and loosing the game.

Overall, I found RESOPE! to be extremely addicting and relatively well made. The reason I don’t think its top notch is simply because of the pre-game interface. The buttons are a little small and it can be somewhat confusing getting started. Don’t get me wrong, because once you familiarize yourself with how it works, its easy. The gameplay is also very good and the graphics and animations are excellent. Ideally you also want to run this on a relatively new device with decent processing power. On the older Galaxy S its a little choppy, but still very much playable. If you’re into puzzle games and a little bit of challenge is something you desire, then you simply must give RESOPE! a try.

When you open the app, the first thing you’ll notice is the beautiful, retro-style flip clock that displays the current time, and yes, will flip with each passing minute and/or hour. Nice touch. You’ll also notice a section for your news summaries at the bottom, you’ll have to log-in to your Google Reader account in order to see anything because quite frankly, the iPhone doesn’t ship with a mind reader framework (yet). Once you’ve logged in, however, you’ll be able to quickly browse through your recent news by swiping left and right. Refresh interval can also be setup in settings, which is just a swipe to the left. In fact, you can swipe in both directions. Swiping left will take you to the main menu and settings, where as swiping right will take you to setup your alarm, which is available as an in-app purchase for just a buck. At the very top of the screen, you’ll notice a nice think bar with the current location, humidity, wind speed & direction and all that fancy weather stuff. Top left will be your current weather. Use the “draggin pad” similar to the notification center pull-down tab, to drop down more weather information about upcoming days. Here you’ll find beautiful icons with weather-relevant information and the highs and lows for that day. As I’ve mentioned, the alarm is just a swipe away and is very easy to setup. Just tap the plus button to add one, scroll to set your time, enter a title and you’re set. You can turn on and off each alarm individually as well which is a nice feature.

Picerty isn’t actually a camera app as you might image. It is simply an editor and a platform for sharing. Once you have some photos ready (preferably about 9), you can jump into Picerty and get started with making your collage. While you aren’t required to create an account, it would be in your benefit to do so in order to comment, liks and share other people’s creation. If you choose to go the quick and easy option then you can begin creating your masterpiece right away. What Picerty does is essentially organize your 9 selected photos in a 3×3 grid where you can then adjust the color balance via various filters, exposure and contrast settings and position of your photos within their bounding squares. You can also move them around and zoom them in and out with the native swipe and pinch gesture controls. You’ll find that the interface is intuitive and easy to use so the learning curve for making your creations is practically non-existent. Once you like how the photos are position and are satisfied with the colors, you can go ahead and share you creation with the world. If you opted in for the free account you will also be able to comment, like and share other people’s photos with the appropriate buttons below their Picerty.

Tomo Seaport must be hands down one of the best looking children’s app that we’ve reviewed for both iOS and Android. Its definitely got the looks but what about usefulness and education factor? As far as I can tell, it has both and some. So what exactly is Tomo Seaport? The idea of the game, like most kids applications is rather simple. Put together a word by dragging the floating letters into their appropriate places and voila! Your word is formed and the narrator will announce it. Then you move on to the next word. There are actually quite a lot of level and its always fun to go back and replay some levels if you’ve forgotten that you’ve ever played it – kids tend to that quite frequently. Besides the game play I just mention, the rest of the game is filled with interactive content, and there’s animation or sounds effect just waiting to be released. There’s also a fun music section where you kids could play along to a tune using some colourful buttons; they don’t make any musical sense, but to kids its plenty of fun.

Greeting Land for iPhone offers a great collection of greeting cards and customization options so that you can create your own, unique and fully customized cards to send to your loved ones and friends. Greeting Land features a large collection of cards from various categories and collections like Valentine’s day cards, Father’s Day cards and much more. There’s also the “popular” and “latest” categories that let you browse cards by other criteria. You also have a “my cards” section where you can save your cards that you’ve created. Editing a card is extremely easy, just select the one you like, tap edit and choose from a variety of task that include adding text on top of the card, adding a clip art or emoticon, and finally your photo. Once your card is complete you can wrap into a variety of different frames and apply several different filters that change the color balance of your entire card. Then simply tap share, choose your sharing options and you’re done!

I Need a Hero for Android takes you on a journey of a prince who’s job is to find and rescue the princess. While this may sound like an action game, in reality the game is in fact somewhat of a puzzle game reminiscent of Candy Crush for iOS and Android. If you’re not familiar with the concept, the idea is rather simple. There is a grid of multi-colored objects on the screen and you job is to match at least three by swiping up, down and across to form lines. The only restriction is that the lines cannot be diagonal. Once the match is complete, those characters will disappear creating more room at the top for new ones to drop. Within those objects sometimes you will find power-ups and other enhancements that let you progress through the level faster. Each level consists of a duel between your prince and an ogre-like character. As you collect power-ups, you’ll unleash various attacks that will drop the health points of your opponent, and with enough luck you’ll beat the level. In between levels, you’ll often encounter cutscenes explaining the storyline. With amazing graphics and humorous scripts, these cut scenes really add quality content to the game. The sequence of these levels can be viewed on a beautiful map that represents a world. Currently there are two worlds in the game and tons of levels in each. I presume that more levels will be coming in the future updates as well.

That’s more or less I Need a Hero in a nutshell. The real take-away here is that the game is absolutely outstanding and I encourage everyone to at least give this one a go at least once. The game itself runs very smoothly even on older devices such as my dinosaur Samsung Galaxy S. The overall experience with I Need a Hero was great and I can’t wait to see more levels in future version of I Need a Hero for Android.

Keeping Touch is very simple in nature but extremely useful in real world application. The idea is rather straightforward – to remind you to call, message or contact the people you care about. These reminders come in the form of notifications and the intervals can be configure to just about everything you might need. The options can be as frequent as everyday to as long as every two months or every year. As you can see, it really depends how often you want to contact the individual or a group of people. In my opinion, this app is most useful for longer cases as its easy to forget to stay in touch with a long-distance friend who you might want to talk to only once a month or so. It would be less useful for everyday cases and more frequent scenarios. All in all, it is great idea to help you stay in touch with the people that matter.

Keeping Touch is overall well made, and relatively straightforward to use. Despite the lack of instructions and help notes, its not impossible to figure out on your own, although it may take a little longer than necessary. A short little how-to guide would be a great feature. Other than that, Keeping Touch was a good experience for me and I would encourage you to check it out if you value people and relationships in your life.

Space Cubes is all about simplicity and game play. The game revolves around a simple gesture-driven controls concept that lets you throw around a little ball, hit and smash various objects, collect points from doing so and moving on consequent levels via portals. Simply swipe your screen to toss the ball as quickly as possible, this gesture will essentially mimic the ball in the pinball machine, bouncing around like its mad. You can also control your character smoothly by gently dragging your finger on the screen. Make him stop just by tapping anywhere. Using the three basic gestures, the goal of the game is to collect as many points as possible and move on the next level by smashing some objects and unlocking the portals. There’s really not much else to the game, but its quite entertaining and extremely smooth so its a pleasure to play.

Gun Club Online is hands down one of the best target range and gun simulators on the iPhone. With incredible graphics and gyroscope/accelerometer driven aiming, Gun Club Online is one of the best experiences when it comes to replicating real shooting action with an AK-47. You’ll start the game in what seems to be a garage. The clever controls are actually in this garage all around you. Point your device in the direction you want to look in just like you would if your were holding a rifle. By shooting various objects, you can select various games, enter the gun shop and play an online multiplayer game. There are no buttons, you have to shoot to select, which is actually very cool. There are three different target range variations. The classic black paper with a white person outline the moves forwards and backwards, and two other variations that you can explore on your own. Playing each one will earn you coins depending on how well you do, and you can collect and use these coins to purchase and unlock more weapons that you can use at the range. Playing online is also a ton of fun and likely the place where you’ll spend the majority of your time.

Iron Run for iPhone is a slightly different spin on Temple Run and Pitfall. If you’re not familiar with either of those fantastic games, the idea is quite simple so let me explain. Essentially you’ll play the role of a character from a third-person perspective, and your task is prevent your character from colliding with foreign and dangerous objects, avoid falling into pits and many other roadblocks that will inconvenience you along the way. The reason you need to do all these things is generally because your character is running from something and must escape. The case with Iron Run is more or less the same except there are, of course, some unique game features. In Iron Run you are a robot running down a road which contains deep pits, car roadblocks, and several other obstacles. You’ll use swipe gestures to move from side to side, jump and slide underneath objects. You can also tap to shoot limited-ammo canon. Along the way you’ll find ammunition and other power ups that will help you along the way. The goal here is to run as long as you can. There’s no limit, the longer the better.

Manila for iPhone IS the app for that. In fact, its really good at what it does. All you have to do is make a free account and take several minutes to set up all your accounts within the application. Its smooth sailing after that because checking up on your accounts is as easy as opening the application. If you’re wondering about security, you have a valid point. Its a little dangerous storing all your account information in one place. However, Manila is very good at managing that risk because as soon as you leave the app, it is locked out with your password. Even if you double tap the home button to open the multitasker, you’ll be prompted for a password. You can make logging-in even easier by setting up a convenient passcode (just like the one you use to unlock your phone). I’m sure there are plenty more security features behind the scenes but these are the obvious ones. Lets move on to accounts and reminders. Manila will setup useful reminders for your account when its relavant. Like when your credit card is due in 3 days. All your reminders can be easily viewed in the reminders section, and its really easy to set your priorities with the information being all in one place.

Murmuration is a minimalist timer for the your meditation needs. It is extremely easy to use, very intuitive and most importantly doesn’t add the additional burden of setting a timer and dealing with clunky interfaces. The app is based entirely on gestures and almost everything you do is with a swipe, a pinch or a drag. Moving from screen to screen can be done simply by swiping and setting a time for your timer is as easy as swiping up and down. It is by far the fastest way to set a timer. Swipe up to set the time, and swipe left to get started. That’s it. Off you go into your meditation mode. After the time is up, a bell will sound and you can go on with your life and do what you have to do. The timer view itself is actually very cool as well, it counts down like a really slow-moving loading progress bar from top to bottom.

Photo Covers for Facebook is a universal application available for both iPhone and iPad that is designed to make updating your cover photo an extremely easy process. Normally, you have to sit down and figure out which photo would look good stretched across the top of your Facebook profile and then go ahead and change it manually via your web browser, or more recently, through the iOS app. However, if you want to, for example, combine your display photo with your timeline photo to create a seamless collage, it would take many painfully slow attempts to get it right. Photo Covers for Facebook solves all of these issues and gives you the ability to easily create photos for both your display photo and your cover photo. You can add effects, rotate and scale the photos in a template setup to make your collage. There are plenty of templates to choose from and you can even construct your cover photos from several photos in your albums. With a few taps, you can have both your cover and display photo ready for upload. Once finished, the final product would have taken just a few minutes.

Wave Alarm is designed to make your waking up time just a little bit easier. Instead of shuffling around and about because you can find the swipe area or the snooze button on your phone, you can simply wave your hand across the top of your phone and it will let you sleep just a little bit longer. Simple as that. In practice, it works quite well and it does exactly what it’s supposed to, which is great, but I wish it could do a few things that it already should. For example, I like to leave my phone face down at night to prevent the screen from gathering dust all night long. Both sides of the phone feature a camera so there’s really no reason for it to work only face up. Other limitation are understandable from the OS side of things. Like the fact that your phone cannot go to sleep and must remain “on” all night long. These limitation are imposed by Apple’s iOS and there’s nothing that can be done about that.

For example, while experimenting with the different start / stop options (you can stop the spinning at any time to get a result) I accidentally won 12 free spins, and several free spin wins came from within those free spins. As a result, I ended with a my pockets full of amazing fake money and satisfied grin on my face. I doubt this kind of luck can be experienced on the real money side, but if it, Slots by Ruby Fortune definitely seems promising.

Overall, I found the game to be extremely well done except for one thing. Running on my older Galaxy S (that’s correct, there’s no typo, its just a Galaxy S) all the game screens were about a quarter of the size of the full screen and ran in that format just fine. I’m not sure if it something to do with the device specifically, but I suspect its due to my older device. Aside from that, Slots by Ruby Fortune is definitely a game to check out if you like slots so go ahead and give a try for free.
