Some say that learning English is the hardest thing next to learning something like Mandarin or Cantonese. Regardless of whether thats true or not, a new app called Tykwa English will help you learn English while playing tic-tac-toe.
Tykwa English is actually very easy to play. Its like playing tic-tac-toe with a computer except in order to get you block on the board you must solve an English puzzle first. Before we jump into the puzzle, I will explain what the board consists of. The screen is divided into nine tiles, just like a standard tic-tac-toe game, but the top block are marked with “Question”, “Positive” and “Negative”. These represent the correct sentence types that you will have to match against the left side, which consists of “Past”, “Present” and “Future” tenses. So to give you an example, if you select bottom left, which is “Past tense, Question” you will have to select one of the three sentences of the corresponding formation like “Were they architects”. There is obviously no question mark on the questions because that would give it away, wouldn’t it now. And this is only one game type! There are four game types in total and each one of them attacks different part of the English language that aren’t particularly “user friendly”, like irregular verbs.
English can be a challenging language, and there’s not a lot of tools to help you get started and even advance past the intermediate level, but I’m not sure that there’s too many that play tic-tac-toe with you at the same time. Tykwa English is definitely an enjoyable experience if you’re learning English or just need a quick game of tic-tac-toe. Regardless of your goals or English knowledge, Tykwa English is a fun game / tool to have with you all the time.
