Longmeadow, Massachusetts – The journey of life. That’s what players of Spermy’s Journey, a biological twist on a classic arcade game released in the App Store for iPhone and iPad on March 11 will be embarking upon, as they maneuver their spermy character through a maze of tubes replete with obstacles and power ups on their way to a successful fertilization. With over 2.5 million installs, Spermy’s Journey has made a big splash on Google Play in just over one month, earning itself number one ranking in overall gaming in two countries and staking its claim as one of the top five arcade games across 19 countries.
The developer, Brian Appell of Avalanche Mountain Apps, was pleasantly surprised at the immediate success of Spermy’s Journey. “You never know how people will react when you take a classic arcade racer and change the plain vanilla venue of your typical title to something a little more interesting and potentially controversial,” he said. “As it turned out, players appreciated the nod to the creation of life, and, if the reviews are anything to go by, have really gotten a kick out of racing their character through such a unique but familiar backdrop. They’ll see a friend playing it and can’t help but try it for themselves.”
Just three days after the game’s launch on the App Store, reviews are already indicating that iPhone and iPad users are getting the same thrill from Spermy’s Journey as their Android counterparts. Typical sentiments include: “The next Flappy Bird,” “Entertaining and Funny,” and “hilarious but also highly addictive.”
Players start with the character of “Average Joe,” as they navigate a maze of tubes on their way to fertilization. But swimming upstream is tiring, and Joe will need to maintain his stamina while avoiding obstacles, feasting on power-ups and collecting coins that can be used to buy more stamina, increase speed and unlock additional characters. Players can look forward to 36 levels of gameplay with such spermy icons as The Mailman, The Cable Guy, The Athlete and the Tech Geek.
