London, United Kingdom – Alongside the launch of the latest addition to their Chinese Learning apps, (the Vocab List series), OnDemandWorld today announced the addition of social networking and forum features for their community of Chinese language students.

With the largest mobile community of Chinese language students in the world, OnDemandWorld’s comprehensive suite of Vocab List apps is integral to the way students are learning and practicing their skills.

App producer, Terence Lau commented “since language is, by definition, always a social experience, it makes sense for us to offer more and more ways for our users to interact. The community we are building brings together students, teachers and anyone with an interest in Chinese language and culture. Some unite in their desire to pass an exam and exchange tips, others practice the language or even arrange travel together”

Andrew Miles, another of the OnDemandWorld team commented, “Chinese is a tonal language, so the meaning of the words themselves rely on the speakers’ tone. That’s why a simple text book won’t be able to teach you properly and it’s also why audio courses are frequently so expensive. That’s why we place such emphasis on two things with our Chinese learning apps – audio files recorded by native speakers and social networking technolgy built right into the app – so students can connect and support each other.”

With a simple interface, Vocab List Basic app is ideal for Chinese learners who have just started. It contains over 500 frequently used Chinese words with English translation, clear spoken Chinese and the written version of the word in both traditional and simplified Chinese.

The audio files are recorded by native Chinese speakers and covers a wide range of vocabularies. It even has a built in study tools that allow you to test yourself until you get the hang of it.

“The Chinese language is no doubt one of the most difficult language to learn and is even considered exotic. But once you’ve mastered the tones, everything else will fall into place. That’s why we’ve put such hard work into developing the new version of Vocab List Basic app. We want our users to be able to learn Chinese effectively with the use of audio files recorded by native Chinese speakers so they can hear the proper pronunciation.” Terence Lau said in an interview on Thursday.

This new update to the Vocab List Basic app enables students to not only support each others’ learning, but the built in discussion forum allows them to share knowledge about travelling in China and get tips on preparing for the HSK exams. The social networking and forum features of the app are available today on iPhone, and will soon be rolled out to iPad.
