London, United Kingdom – Golconda Games today is pleased to introduce Candy Bricks 1.0 free for iOS, its new Arkanoid-style breakout clone, where trays of delicious treats are the rectangular bricks that players hit with a ball using a draggable horizontal paddle. A hi-def homage to the great arcade games of the 70’s & 80’s, Candy Bricks features top and bottom balls and paddles. In 1-Player mode, the top paddle is controlled by the iDevice, in Hotseat mode it is controlled by the player across the board, and in Multiplayer mode it is controlled remotely by an online opponent.

Feature Highlights:
* Classic Arkanoid action, breaking through walls of rectangular silver trays holding an assortment of delicious treats
* Thrilling online duels against live opponents
* Hotseat mode where both players battle on a single device
* 100 levels of 1-person gameplay
* Bonuses and power-ups for continually varied games

According to Wikipedia, “Arkanoid is an arcade game developed by Taito in 1986. It is based upon Atari’s Breakout games of the 1970s. The title refers to a doomed ‘mothership’ from which the player’s ship, the Vaus, escapes. The player controls the ‘Vaus’, a space vessel that acts as the game’s ‘paddle’ which prevents a ball from falling from the playing field, attempting to bounce it against a number of bricks. The ball striking a brick causes the brick to disappear. When all the bricks are gone, the player goes to the next level, where another pattern of bricks appears.”

At Candy Bricks’ launch in portrait orientation, the 1-player green paddle and ball are at the bottom of the screen, while the red paddle and ball are at the top. Players control their paddles by dragging horizontally, and their goal is to prevent balls of either color from getting past and disappearing off the gameboard. Players win by achieving the highest score after all bricks are removed, or by hitting balls past opponents, whichever occurs first.

Closely related is the goal of scoring points by deflecting incoming balls towards the trays of treats, arranged in one of one hundred symmetrical patterns. Each tray can hold one, two, three, or four candies or pastries. Only one item is removed with each hit, and trays with only one item may require multiple hits. Combos and bonuses are available, and gameplay is simplified by having both balls maintain a constant speed.

As in nearly all breakout clones, the paddles have beveled edges, allowing skilled players to deflect balls at angles other than the (incoming) angle of incidence. Candy Bricks includes various power-ups, which can emanate from a tray removed from the gameboard, and which travels slowly towards the player. If caught by the paddle (sometimes allowing a ball to slip past), the power-up is activated. Various power-ups create a temporary back wall, larger paddle, or ball-attracting paddle.

The game features lifelike graphics & animation, and the game physics is smooth and accurate. While it is common for a ball to bounce vertically, back and forth between layers of bricks, Candy Bricks also includes instances where the ball bounces back and forth horizontally between bricks. With foot-tapping music and imaginative sound effects, Candy Bricks provides countless hours of classic arcade enjoyment.

“At last, you can become a world champion at Sweet Arkanoid!” said Roman Smirnov of Golconda Games. “Beat all your opponents online; complete 100 levels and eat up all the cookies! Turn on the game and do it! We believe in you!!!”
