Southampton, United Kingdom – Games developer, Vital Games, is set to launch its latest multi-platform adventure, Gene, on 31 January 2014. Set in a vacuum of space, players must help the stranded alien, Gene – whose spaceship has crash landed. Gene must traverse across 15 massive and complex levels, both above ground and through dark creepy caves to gain super power mutations to run, jump and blast his way through obstacles and defeat enemies. You will collect coins, hit checkpoints and find ship parts whilst you try to unearth his stolen gems.

All sounds pretty serious stuff huh? Well, it’s also an amazing amount of fun! With an awesome space themed sound track, this classic platformer allows you to guide Gene through this world. You can re-play in free play mode where you can further explore all levels to complete your mission and gain high scores. The world map has a fun, catchy tune where more items and characters can be found.

The controls are comfortable, responsive and Gene moves intuitively, which means errors are on you! The game has a directional pad and jump/blast/change mutation buttons which are fully customisable for left or right handed players and can be made fully opaque or totally invisible once you have trained your brain, optimising the screen view.

Each super power mutation offers a different skill identified through his colour changing outfits. Part of the challenge is in knowing the right mutation for a specific job. There are six mutations in total and you must frequently change between them during the levels to find your way through.

Rob Chambers, creator states “the original idea was to make Gene so that he gradually gained access to new items and abilities and because he looked like a squishy blob made in a lab, and kind of like a genetic mutation, I figured why not make it so that these abilities are unlocked with new mutations as the player progresses through the game.”

There are no difficulty settings, but built in help features will guide you through the first levels and then you’re on your own.

At the end of the game, you must fight and destroy the grand boss which will require all your skills you have learned to defeat him. Can you help Gene in his quest? Find out by downloading the game from the App Store and Google Play on 31 January 2014.

Editor’s Notes:
Gene will be available to play on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Windows 8 phone, Windows 8 & Tizen. A preview video and images can be found at Gene online. Gene is suitable for all ages and is available as a paid for app to download and play. Gene is the fourth multi-platform game to be released by Vital Games.
