Based in New York – Squard, Inc. today announced the official release of Squar’d [pronounced ‘Squared’] – a free application for iPhone and Android that combines three of the most popular mobile activities – gaming, photo sharing and social media.
With Squar’d, photos are divided into 5×5 randomly shuffled squares to create Squarified puzzles. Users can then share puzzles with friends who must solve them in order to see the shared photos. Photos are always shared in their squarified state and users can only view and comment on photos after the puzzle has been solved.
Users earn points for creating, sharing and solving Squar’d puzzles. Points are for bragging rights only for now, except for featured Squar’d Play2Win puzzles that will reward the best players with special prizes.
Squar’d is opening up the platform to brands as a new way to engage with mobile users by offering incentives that are only available after completion of a ‘sponsored’ puzzle or by creating contests rewarding the users who have earned the highest points.
