Los Angeles, California – Ascent Applications today is pleased to introduce Tandem Parking 1.0 free for iOS, it’s an innovative new app that streamlines the process of roommates sharing a single parking space. When users are on their way home by car, one tap sends an alert to a selected roommate. If accepted by the recipient, the GPS-enabled app automatically sends a second alert when the user is almost home. This allows roommates to pull their car out and immediately park behind users after they arrive. The app eliminates the need for dangerous calling or texting while driving, and it solves egress issues commonly created when sharing a parking space.
Feature Highlights:
* One tap to send an alert
* Automatically sends a reminder when you are almost home
* Both free and ad-free versions available
* Makes shared parking situations a breeze
According to Wikipedia, “Another ad hoc [parking] arrangement is tandem parking. This is sometimes done with residential motor vehicle parking, where two motor vehicles park nose-to-end in tandem. The first motor vehicle does not have independent access, and the second motor vehicle must move to provide access. As with attendant parking, the purpose is to maximize the number of motor vehicles that can park in a limited space.” While it allows the parking of a greater number of cars, tandem parking can be quite inconvenient when one car blocks another. Tandem Parking for iOS is designed to minimize that inconvenience by alerting those who are already parked that another vehicle will soon be sharing that space.
For example, two roommates, Bob and Tim, share an apartment and a parking space. Bob arrives home at 5 p.m. and leaves for work at 8 a.m. Tim is on a later schedule, arriving home each night at 7 and leaving at 9. Each morning, Bob is the first to leave, but because he was the first to arrive, he will be blocked by Tim. With Tandem Parking for iOS, when Tim starts home he sends an alert to Bob. One tap notifies Bob that Tim is on his way, and the GPS-enabled app indicates his exact distance from home. If Bob accepts the alert request, via the Tandem Parking app on his iPhone, Tim’s iPhone will automatically notify Bob that Tim is about to arrive. This reminder alert is sent when Tim is one-half-mile from home, though this distance is user selectable. Tim arrives home to find Bob ready to exchange his spot with Tim. In this way, Bob can easily leave in the morning, without bothering his roommate.
“This is a brand new concept – software that streamlines the tandem parking experience has never been published,” commented Mark Hardy of Ascent Applications. “The value may not be immediately seen to someone who isn’t familiar with tandem parking situations, but anyone who is immediately understands.”
