Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – Right before Thanksgiving, the official start of the holiday season in the States, DEVONtechnologies has put together a big bag of updates for almost all their apps. From DEVONthink to DEVONnote and DEVONagent, there are new convenient features as well as reliability and performance improvements.

DEVONthink Pro Office 2.7.2 gets support for the brand new MailTags 4, a convenient menu option to quickly start or stop embedded web sharing, and uses the best available alternative instead of relying on the plain text representation when archiving email messages. This makes recognizing duplicate messages much more reliable.

DEVONthink Pro and up come with improved AppleScript and Automator support optimized for OS X Mountain Lion and later. Starting with version 2.7.2, all DEVONthink editions are able to convert images directly to rich text documents, save PDF forms, and quickly create new groups directly from the Take Note or Clip to DEVONthink panels. The Activity panel shows and hides automatically for common tasks, and saving edited images retains as much meta data and other properties as possible.

Finally, DEVONthink To Go 1.4.2, the iOS companion to DEVONthink and DEVONnote, introduces an emergency export function that lets users transfer all documents from the iPad or iPhone to the Mac through iTunes, e.g. in the case the database on the Mac got lost but the data is still available in DEVONthink To Go.

“We’re so overloaded with information these days that sometimes it can be flat out intimidating. DEVONthink is all about taking that information and organizing it in a way that makes it manageable, if not enjoyable. And that’s what we deliver and improve with each and every release. That’s what sets us apart. DEVONthink grows with your needs and no matter how many items you put into it, it always scales perfectly and gives you the best tools for handling them”, comments Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.

DEVONagent 3.6, available in three editions, from the Pro edition for users doing heavy-duty research on the Internet to the freeware Lite edition for casual web searchers, now also finds technical papers on IEEE Xplore or European law documents on EUR-Lex. The plugins for the category-based search engine Blekko, for Google Patent Search, and for the American Chemical Society have been updated and improved, too.

The Pro edition lets the user extract objects from web pages using AppleScript, enhances the workspace handling, and extends the plugin API that now allows search plugins to send “ping” requests before executing the actual search query. The image scripts use the Thumbnail Gallery scanner for better results and support the JPEG 2000 file format.

Of course all eight updates fix minor bugs and glitches on the go, too. All updates are free and recommended for all users.
