New Lenox, Illinois – New Lenox, Illinois – ZipGrade LLC today is pleased to announce the release of ZipGrade 1.4 in the Apple App Store. ZipGrade turns a teacher’s iPhone or iPad into a grading machine capable of scanning, grading, and organizing over 20 multiple-choice tests per minute. This update adds the ability to export results as a spreadsheet or PDF. This version also includes improvements to scanning speed and accuracy.

Teachers around the world are already using ZipGrade for formative assessments, weekly quizzes, chapter tests, and exit tickets. With several, free answer sheet formats available for download at ZipGrade.com, teachers can create answer keys for up to 50 questions. The answer sheets themselves are available under Creative Commons (BY-NC 3.0) and can be freely distributed and incorporated into other materials. Some teachers have created custom answer sheet templates in their own language to meet their specific needs.

No two classrooms are alike. For that reason, ZipGrade offers several options for teachers. For export and student assessment, ZipGrade allows the teacher to define students by ID numbers that students enter on their answer sheets. For simpler use, ZipGrade uses the written name of the student on the answer sheets for reporting purposes with no ID number required. ZipGrade not only stores the graded answers, but the image of the actual answer sheet. This graded image and results can be emailed to students or parents while in ZipGrade.

ZipGrade provides item analysis for each quiz. This provides statistics on which questions the class found most difficult or what content they have mastered. The results of each quiz are available in the app and can be exported as a PDF and spreadsheet.

Answer sheets for ZipGrade

Located in the Chicago suburbs, ZipGrade LLC was founded by John Viebach to develop the ZipGrade application. For 15 years, John has written software to help organize and report on a state high school math competition. The idea for ZipGrade come from a brainstorm on how to grade the thousands of tests taken by students in a 2 hour window before the awards ceremony. It became obvious that there is a large and diverse need for a tool like ZipGrade in the classroom. John is continuing to seek feedback for the direction and features of ZipGrade.
