Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 10.12.58 PMGames are a great way to kill a couple of minutes, or maybe even an hour. Today, we’re taking a look at a perfect brain-stimulating puzzle that fits your busy schedule. Spend 5 minutes or 5 hours playing. It’s up to you.

Scattergories is available as a universal application for both iPhone and iPad completely free. If you’re not familiar with the concept, I’ll briefly explain. The idea is based on a board game and it’s to come up with one word for each category in the current round under 90 seconds. Playing with an opponent every time, whoever comes with the best-fitting words fastest, wins the round. The categories can be anything from animals to parts of the human body. But it’s not as simple as it sounds. While the categories can and do repeat from round to round, you must come up with a word that starts with a specific letter and that usually changes with every round to keep you on your feet. Coupled with a conservative time limit, the game can be pretty challenging especially if you find yourself struggling on half way through and the time has almost run out.

Scattergories is a social game, meaning you play with other people. But it’s not boring. Match-making takes a couple of seconds and is rarely even a wait. Signing up is also optional, which is great for anybody who wants to jump straight in. Alternatively, if you want to get more personal, signing up with Facebook is a great option as it will pull down your display photo and provide some extra options. Doing so, however, is not a requirement to enjoy the game. You’ll still continue to level up and earn coins without Facebook. Raising your level will inevitably unlock cool game modes and more features. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also visit the in-app purchase store to buy some more coins or remove ads.

Overall, I found Scattergories to be a fantastic rendition of a classic game on iOS. It’s well made, easy to get started and overall a seamless experience. I would highly recommend Scattergories to anyone looking for their next game addiction as this title will definitely win you over.
